Mammals: A hybrid Scottish Wildcat.

During bird survey work in Scotland we came across a cat which had been killed in a road traffic accident. On first inspection it looked really interesting, showing several features of Wildcat, I took a few photographs and secured the corpse just in case.

The relatively blunt dark tipped, ringed tail with no dorsal line are pro Wildcat features, however there seemed to be some obvious hybrid features such as the broken flank stripes which show some spotting and the white, not dark feet.

Photographs were sent to the Scottish Wildcat action project officer who kindly commented that it was a known 50/50 hybrid which had been neutered at a nearby farm last year.
